The Hartford-Springfield Region has been dubbed New England's "Knowledge Corridor" in part because of its great concentration of higher education institutions, including some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation. There are 26 higher education institutions and 110,000 students in the region.

The wide variety of colleges and universities, from the state universities of Massachusetts and Connecticut to elite liberal arts colleges like Amherst and Trinity, enhances the quality of the region's workforce and its quality of life, both of which are world class.
