The Commonwealth of Massachusetts offers many incentives to new and expanding businesses. Most of these apply to workforce development, economic target area development, financing, job creation, and tax credits. Massachusetts unveiled a ten-year, $1 Billion Life Sciences Initiative and several new Renewable Energy incentives during 2008. Massachusetts established many renewable energy company incentives during 2008, including the creation of a Renewable Energy Center funded with $65 Million in incentive money.
